16 Jan
2013

Public health will become the responsibility of local government when it transfers from the NHS to local authorities in April 2013.

The Local Government Association along with Alcohol Research UK has produced a briefing document for councillors and officers which seeks to explain the challenges facing councils and the ‘opportunities they have to tackle alcohol related harm through the licensing process’.

This briefing ‘aims to place health bodies’ new role in alcohol licensing in a strategic context, and to provide guidance to those who will be delivering the Responsible Authority role’.

Called ‘Public health and alcohol licensing in England’, for those interested, it can be found here: http://www.local.gov.uk/c/document_library/get_file?uuid=507d95e6-f375-4691-8c9a-03e668ec9b21&groupId=10171
